Mulla on kirjoihin liittyvä vakava tilaongelma. Olen luonteeltani keräilijä, joten kirjoista luopuminen on vaikeaa, vaikka olisin lukenut ne ja todennut huonoiksi. Hiljattain olen olen parantanut tapojani: lähelläni on pikkuinen antikvariaatti, joka ei osta kirjoja, mutta vaihtaa ja myy niitä. Vien sinne kirjoja ja tuon kotiin vaihtareita, joten en täytä kirjahyllyäni yli äyräiden. Joskus kyllä ostan kirjoja (koska olen kirjakaupassa töissä ja näen kaikki ne ihanat uutuudet, ja harvinaisempien kirjojen tilaaminen on helppoa, tämä on sekä siunaus että kirous), mutta yritän päästä kirjoista myös eroon: näin pidän vain suosikit ja muutamat lukemattomat kirjat. Minulla on myös mangaa, mutta niitä käsittelin aiemassa postauksessa. Tässäkin puhun vain tietyistä kirjoista, itsestäänselvistä syistä.
I have a huge space problem when it comes to books. I'm a collector by nature so I hate getting rid of books, even if I've red them and deemed them poor. Recently I've become better at disposing books: I know a tiny antiquarian bookshop near me, they won't buy books but will sell and trade them. I take books in and take others in exchange, so I won't overflow my bookshelf. Sometimes I do buy books (since I work at a bookstore and see all the awesome new books and ordering rare ones is so easy, it's both a blessing and a curse), but I try to get rid of books as well: that way I only keep favourites and some unread ones. I have manga as well, but I talked about them in a previous post (Finnish only but photos show the important things). In this I will only talk about some books, for obvious reasons.
Katsomalla kirjahyllyäni on aika helppoa sanoa mitkä ovat a) lempigenreni ja b) lempikirjailijani. Eeppinen fantasia ja kauhu ovat lähimpänä sydäntäni, joko yhdistettynä tai erikseen. Luen näitä mielummin englanniksi, mutta jotkut sarjat olen lukenut pikkutytöstä lähtien niin monta kertaa suomeksi, etten osaa enää vaihtaa kieltä
By looking at my shelf it's quite easy to tell a) my favourite genres and b) my favourite authors. I'm most fond of epic fantasy and horror, mixed or separate. I prefer to read these in English, but some series I've read so many times in Finnish since a wee girl that I can't change language on those anymore.
Kenties lempikirjailijani kaikista on Robin Hobb. Omistan kaikki paitsi yhden kirjan hän on kirjoittanut sillä nimellä, enkä malta ODOTTAA The Fools Assassin -trilogiaa (ennakkotilasin ekan osan!). FitzUljas Näkijä on aivan mahtava hahmo, ja hänestä kertovat trilogiat ovat suosikkejani. Rain Wildeistä (ei suomennettui) kertovat kirjat ovat myös hyviä, koska ihailen lohikäärmeitä. Näitä on vain vaikea järjestää: kirjan koon mukaan, yhteenkuuluvien trilogioiden mukaan, aikajärjestyksessä? Teen asioista joskus vaikeaa itselleni. Ne eivät ole vaikeita, teen niistä sellaisia... ^^'
My perhaps favourite author of all time is Robin Hobb. I have all but one book she's written under that name, and can't WAIT for "The Fools Assassin" trilogy (I pre-ordered the first book!). FitzChivalry Farseer is an amazing character, so those trilogies are my favourites. Books about the Rain Wilds are good as well because I adore dragons. I just find it hard to arrange these: by book size, by linking trilogies, by timelines? I make things hard for myself sometimes. They're not hard,I just make them so... ^^'
Ja näiden alla on lisää fantasiaa, ylläri pylläri :D Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman on kirjallisuuden taivaissa valittu pari. Kuolemanpotrri-sarja, Profeetan ruusu.. Ah, näiden kanssa kasvoin. Kerran kirjamessuilla näin kaikki seitsemän Kuolemanporttia vierekkäin ja olin niin onnellinen! Ostin kaikki ja monta muuta kirjaa, onneksi poikaystävä oli mukana kantamassa xD Näitä luen suomeksi, koska olen luenut ne niin monesti, että kielen vaihtaminen olisi vaikeaa. Halpo <3 TSH on luonnollisesti hyllyssä, samoin paljon muutakin fantasiaa sekä suomeksi että englanniksi. Näissä hyllyissä ei sitten muuta olekaan.
And under these I have more fantasy, surprise surprise :D Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman are a pair made in literature heaven. The Death Gate Cycle, Rose of the Prophet... Ah, these I grew up reading. One time at a book festival I saw all seven books for Death Gate at one table and was giddy with happiness! I bought all of them as well as many other books, luckily I had my boyfriend to carry them xD These I read in Finnish, since I've read them so many times it's hard to re-read them in English. Haplo <3 LotR is naturally on the shelf, as well as many other fantasy books in both English and Finnish. And there's nothing else on these shelves.
Olen lukenut Stephen Kingin kirjoja kymmenvuotiaasta lähtien. Pidän enemmän vanhoista kirjoista kuten Hohto, Uinu uinu lemmikkini, Painajainen, Pimeä puoli ja Misery. Uudet ovat myös hyviä, mutta loput ovat vähän niin ja näin, etenkin kirja Kuvun alla. Hyvä kirja, mutta lopun vuoksi koko kokemuksestä jäi "meh" fiilis. Luen myös hänen poikansa kirjoja, hän kirjoittaa Joe Hillinä. Sydämen muotoinen rasia oli todella hyvin kirjoitettu. He ovat todellisia kauhun mestareita. Tällä hyllyllä on myös dekkareita ja jännäreitä.
I've read Stephen King's books since I was ten. I prefer older books such as Shining, Pet Semetary, Salem's Lot, The Dark Half and Misery. Newer are good as well, but the endings are a bit so-so, especially in Under the Dome. Good book, but the ending made the whole experience "meh". I also read his son's books, who writes as Joe Jill. Heart-Shaped Box was amazingly well written. They are true masters of horror. This shelf is also home to detective novels and thrillers.
Ja tässä on ne "ei fantasiaa eikä kauhua" -kirjat. Näistä suosikkini on Arnold Schwarzeneggerin elämänkerta, olen fanittanut häntä pikkulikasta asti. Mulla on hirveästi hänen elokuvia, vanhimmat ovat VHS:iä. Anyway, täältä löytyy kirja Pohjois-Koreasta, dekkareita ja ja vielä lukematta olevia kirjoja, lähinnä lahjoja. Ja Juha Vuorisen tuotantoa, joskus on kiva lukea ns. äijähuumoria. Tämä on tosiaan random hylly.
And here are the random books that are not fantasy or horror. My favourite if these is Arnold Schwarzenegger's biography, I've been his fan since a wee girl. I have a ton of his movies, older ones in VHS. Anyway, here's also a book bout North Korea, some detective novels I haven't read and other un-read books, mostly gifts. And books from Juha Vuorinen, he writes dirty man-humour I sometimes like to read. This is indeed the random shelf.
Mulla on aika paljon keittokirjoja, koska en voi syödä melkein mitään valmisruokaa. Näissä ei ole reseptejä erikoisallergioilleni, mutta olen oppinut muokkaamaan niitä ja haluan ruokavaliooni niin paljon vaihetelua kun vaan saan. Tällä hyllyllä on myös randomeja kirjoja (esimerkiksi ompeluun) sekä sarjakuvaa (Nemi<3), KERA-lehtiä ja Japaniin liittyvää kirjallisuutta.
I have quite many cook books, because I can't eat almost any ready food. These don't have recipes especially for my allergy needs, but I've learned to adapt them and want a lot of variety in my food, as much as I can manage. This shelf also holds random books (like sewing) and comic books (Nemi<3), KERA magazines and literature about Japan.
"Mikset laita kirjoja kahteen riviin? Hyllyt näyttävät tarpeeksi syviltä", saatat kysyä. Vastaus: näiden takana on vanhoja VHS:iä, puolet on Disneytä, suurin osa lopuista Arnold Shwartzeneggerin leffoja. Kyllä, meillä on VHS laite. Kyllä, meillä on ikivanha TV mitä ei venytä kuvaa niin kuin uusi telkkarimme. Nämä ovat tärkeitä muistoja ja mahtavia leffoja, mutta vievät paljon tilaa. Sitäpaitsi jos kirjoja on kahdessa rivissä, en näe kaikkia, eikä sellainen käy. Toivon joskus asuvani paikassa, missä on enemmän tilaa kuin kahdelle kirjahyllylle...
"Why not put books in two rows? The shelves look deep enough", you might ask. The answer: behind these are old VHS tapes, half of them Disney, most of the rest Arnold Shwartzenegger movies. Yes, we have a VHS player. Yes, we have an ancient TV that won't distort the image like the big TV. These are important memories and awesome movies, but take a lot of space. Besides, if I had books in two rows, I wouldn't see all of them, and that won't do. I hope to someday live in a place big enough for more than two book shelves...
Miksi minulla on näin paljon kirjoja ja miksi ne ovat minulle niin tärkeitä? No, olin kiusattu ja kipeä lapsi. Opin lukemaan samaan aikaan kun kaksi vuotta vanhempi siskoni alkoi opettelemaan, eli luin sujuvasti viiden vanhana. Siitä lähtien halusin aina kirjoja lahjaksi ja luin kaiken, minkä sain käsiini huolitamma genrestä tai kuinka vanhalle kirja oli kirjoitettu. Meidän pikkuinen sivukirjastomme oli alamäen juurella, ja vietin siellä ison osan ala-asteesta. Kun se suljettiin jouduin menemään isoon kaupungin kirjastoon, joka avasi silmäni. Kirjat oli maailmani, hahmot ystäviäni, sillä oikeassa elämässä heitä oli vähän. Surullista? Ehkä, mutten kadu sitä. Minulla ei vieläkään ole paljon ystäviä, mutta pidän heitä todella tärkeinä. Ja huolimatta siitä mitä kiusaajani yrittivät vakuuttaa, minulla on ihana poikaaystävä, yli kolme vuotta yhdessä ja vielä mennään.Rakastan elämääni ja jatkan kirjojen rakastamista, sekä vanhoja suosikkeja että uusia löytöjä.
Why do I have so many books and why do I obsess over them this much? Well, I was a bullied and sick child. I learned to read at the same time my older sister by two years started to learn before she went to school, so I read well at the age of five. From there on, I've always wanted books for presents and read everything I got my hands on, regardless of the genre or for how old audience it was written for. Our tiny library was just a hill down, and I spent a lot of time there in elementary school. When it shut down and I had to go to the big town library, my eyes opened, and I never went back. Books were my world, the characters my friends, for I had few in real life. Sad? Perhaps, but I have no regrets. I still don't have many friends, but the ones I do, I hold very dear to my heart. And in contrary all my bullies convinced me, I have an amazing boyfriend for over three years and going. I love my life and will continue to love books, my old favourites and new gems I keep finding.
